We are not alone

The image of a tree is often strong, straight, solitary. The strongest grow tall and grab the most sunlight - survival of the fittest. Right? Turns out, there is a better image: a deep web of interconnectedness.

A large body of research has recently discovered that tree roots are interconnected, each helping the other. Vast forests of underground roots that are cooperating, not competing. And where tree roots end, microscopic fungal “roots” begin, allowing trees to pass along sugars and other nutrients. They support each other, even between different species. Scientists are calling it the Wood Wide Web. This blows my mind!

And if this deep, truly amazing connectedness exists under the surface of the natural world, how could it not exist in the spiritual world? Yoga calls this spiritual interconnectedness, ishvara pranidhana.

We are part of something. Deep and under the surface. We are not alone. You are not alone.
