Connection

It’s that simple.

This week a study came out linking being outside, in nature, with better eating habits.  The study didn’t ask if you exercised while outside or worked while outside or even counted steps while outside.  It simply asked how connected you felt while you were outside.  Connected.  It was that simple.

Yoga, through its many different styles and experiences, asks the same of us.  You can choose calm yoga or strength yoga, hot yoga or stretchy yoga. It doesn’t matter, as long as we feel connected by the end of class. The word yoga itself translates to “union”.  It’s that simple.

Does connecting slow us down, giving us valuable think-before-we-grab time?  Does it make us more mindful and therefore more aware of when we are full?  Does daydreaming in nature work like sleep-dreaming, healing our minds and bodies?  All fascinating questions! But at this moment, I’m kinda good with the simplicity of:  just feel connected.

Maybe this week we need to turn off our step counters (gasp) and just honor the time we spend outside or on our mats.  Value it as Connection.  Simple.  Profound.

Until next time,

Laura
